I'm not sure I have any answers, but I've also had the thought that it seems too easy to be true.
I'm hoping to do something like I've seen in commercial structures, with what would almost amount to a glass wall. I'm still doing drawings but I'm hoping to have wooden beams, something around the 40x190mm of Jarrah or other fire resistant timber, with glass set directly in to the structural beams held in place with 40x19 slats and probably a gasket bead betweeen the glass and main timber. I understand I'll have to take some care to make in particular the bottom of the window waterproof but it seems generally workable.
I'm also hoping this makes it feasible to do double glazing one layer at a time to spread the costs.
